How This IAS Officer Is Changing Anganwadi Is A Lesson For All 20 And 30-Somethings

There are a few people who do not limit their duties to achieve their personal goals. They think beyond their own selves, family, and friends, ready to fulfill their duties as a responsible citizen of the country. Such is this person!

IAS officer Garima Singh has gone beyond her duties to serve the nation. She is changing so many young lives in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand by adopting the anganwadi of the village and thereby enlightening the future of underprivileged children.

IPS turned IAS officer

Garima hails from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. In 2012, she passed the Civil Service Examination, becoming the first person from her village to clear the exam. She was chosen for IPS and got posted as a trainee ASP for two years in Lucknow. In 2014, she was assigned as the Superintendent of Police in Jhansi.

But Garima had a quest for more. She wanted to become an IAS officer. So while performing her duty as an IPS officer with full devotion, she started preparing for the UPSC examination.

She would wake up early in the morning and study before going on the job.

Finally, her hard work paid off and she cleared the UPSC exam in 2015, securing a terrific 55th rank. In 2016, Garima got posted as an IAS officer in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. That was the time when she got exposed to the awful condition of Hazaribagh anganwadi. She wanted to give proper education to the underprivileged children. She then decided to take matter in her own hands and adopt the Anganwadi.

Changing the vibe

Garima spent Rs 50,000 of her hard-earned money to renovate the Anganwadi building. She also transformed the interior of the building by introducing carpets, tables, and chairs. She bought learning blocks, games, and other sports items apart from the study materials to build interest in students and encourage them to come to school everyday.

She painted the walls with cartoons characters to attract kids and make learning fun for them.

Garima hopes that her efforts will inspire other social workers, businessmen, representatives of the society, and philosophers to adopt more Anganwadi. Looking at her work, the government has announced the reconstruction of 50 such centers by March 31 next year following the design of Garima’s Anganwadi.

Apart from educating underprivileged children, Garima also took special efforts to start the women helpline number 1090, taking a huge step to provide security to the women.

In ancient India, the cost of the Gurukul education system was borne by the traders and the capitalists, so that the younger generation could get the higher education. Garima’s effort can be compared with such ancient culture of India. She is an example to form a strong society in the future.
