Women in our country are excelling in all fields. Breaking all the stereotypical norms of the society, they have started raising a voice for their rights, and have made a strong place for themselves. Be it politics, science, or sports, there is no field without women.
Today, we are talking about Aparajita Rai, a strong woman who conquered all odds and became Sikkim’s first women IPS officer.
Aparajita was a very bright student. She had a keen interest in studies as well as all the co-curricular activities. When she turned eight, her father, a divisional forest officer in Sikkim, passed away. The incident shook Aparajita’s world. Her family underwent financial turmoil and her life came to a standstill. However, her mother, a teacher by profession, encouraged Aparajita to continue her education.
Aparajita started understanding the reason of her father’s demise. The carelessness and insensitivity of the government officials disturbed her and decided to do bring a change in the system.
She worked hard and scored 95 percent in STD 12, becoming the state board topper. She also received the Best Girl All Rounder award at the Tashi Namgyal Academy for her performance.
Aparajita’s passion for social service and desire to do something for the society did not fade away. She went to study law and graduated with BA LLB (Hons) from the West Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences in 2009.
Apart from that, she started preparing for the UPSC exams. After a year, she appeared for the exam and scored 768 rank. But she was not satisfied with her marks. In 2011, she appeared again for the exams and surprised everyone by scoring 358 rank, the highest marks ever secured by anyone in Sikkim.
In just 28, Aparajita became the first women IPS officer in Sikkim. But her laurels did not end here. During her training, she bagged the Best Lady Outdoor trophy.
Currently, Aparajita is placed in West Bengal. She is always in the news for her exemplary work and does not compromise with law and order. She won the 55 Batch of Senior Course Officers Trophy for Best Turn Out and Shri Umesh Chandra Trophy for Field Combat and also Government Trophy for Bengali by the government of West Bengal.
Aparajita is a strong example for every women who want to break the stereotypes and follow their passion. Her hard work and determination led her to success. She is a real hero and the pride of our country.
